A Wee Move with a Big Impact

After months of planning and anticipation, our Edinburgh teams have officially settled into their brand-new office, and it’s already proving to be a hit! From seamless tech to scenic views and sociable spaces, Katharine Millar, LCP Delta’s Head of People, shares what it’s been like to move in, and why the new space is so much more than just a change of address.

How did moving day go?

We’d been in our previous office, Argyll House, for a long time. It had served us well, but with growing teams and new departments joining us, we were quickly outgrowing it! Although the timing felt right, I think there’s always a bit of apprehension when it comes to moving, but the day honestly couldn’t have gone better. Everything was seamless; we just walked in, plugged in, and were ready to work – it was that easy! Everyone involved with the Facilities and Digital Services teams did an amazing job behind the scenes to make it such a positive experience for us and ensure we had everything we needed.

We hadn’t seen much of the office beforehand. Most of the details were kept under wraps so it would be a surprise - and it really was! Everyone was genuinely impressed when they arrived. Breakfast was arranged for everyone as they came in, which was a nice touch, followed by drinks and nibbles in our new Hub later that evening to celebrate.

What’s the office like?

The layout has made a big difference. We’ve got a great mix of teams here, such as LCP Delta and Pensions Data Services, plus representatives in Digital Services, BD, HR and Finance, so it’s a nice blend of people working together. To help with that, the space is completely open plan, with everyone sitting in one shared space, which feels far more connected and collaborative than before. Some of our teams work closely with colleagues in London, Paris and Cambridge, so the tech set-up we have now has made hybrid working much more inclusive too. We also have nice meeting rooms and pods to work from, so we’re not competing for space and it’s easy to jump into one for a quick chat or private call when needed.

We’re also spoilt with our lovely new kitchen area, which has floor to ceiling windows on one side with gorgeous views over the Meadows. It’s a nice space to grab lunch together, or sit in the sun for a quick catch up over a cuppa with someone.

What’s the culture like in the Edinburgh office?

It’s really friendly, supportive and inclusive. People often say they love visiting the Edinburgh office because everyone’s so welcoming. There’s a nice energy here and it’s great we have a working environment that reflects and supports that.

What do you all do socially as a team?

The weather has been beautiful recently, so lunch in the Meadows is the new favourite thing. We’re thinking about getting some office picnic blankets too for the summer, so people can all sit out together.

There are regular after-work socials, such as meals, drinks, games nights, climbing - there’s always lots going on. The teams really enjoy spending time together, both inside and outside of the office.

What’s the local neighbourhood like?

We’re still exploring, but there are already a few early favourites - Söderberg and Union of Genius are top of the list already for coffee and lunch, but there are lots more places still for us to try. The whole area has a lively, studenty feel that adds a nice buzz.

Any top tips for visitors?

We’re in a brilliant, central location. You can visit Holyrood Palace or walk to Edinburgh Castle, up the Royal Mile, and enjoy the view before looping back down to the office. There are also plenty of walks and hills nearby to explore – all walking distance from the office, like Colton Hill and Arthur’s Seat.

We always welcome visitors if people have a reason to be working in Edinburgh and now we have an office we’re proud to welcome people into too.

And finally, how would you describe the new space in three words?

Welcoming. Fun. Collaborative.
